Senior Judge Beth A. Allen served on the Multnomah County Circuit Court for more than 12 years. For much of that time she was on the Family Law Bench. More recently, she took on General Bench cases, while still handling family law cases. Before joining the bench, she operated her own law firm, Beth Allen Law, representing primarily LGBT clients with family, probate and discrimination legal issues. Her first years out of law school were spent clerking for the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals. After that, she was a "Big Firm" associate, practicing many diverse areas of law, including contract disputes, wage & hour, all aspects of employment law and business disputes, practicing in both State (Oregon and Washington) and Federal courts. As a lawyer, she was a strong proponent of the value of alternative dispute resolution as a reasonable and cost-effective way for her clients to resolve their legal issues. As a judge, she often helped resolve cases through informal and formal settlement conferences.
